European Union

In April 2005, the EU hosted a meeting to bring together DG Environment, DG Transport and DG Research. All of these powerful DG agreed that CCS is to be a priority for the EU, to be operational by 2020.

On 12 + 13 September 2006, the same three DG came together to endorse a Technology Platform report, compiled in concensus by EU stakeholder industries. This includes contribution from power generators, oil companies and environment groups. The SRA (Strategic Research agenda) and SDA (Strategic Deployment Document) are now the focus of industry action, with a view to adapting the EU Waste and Water Directives, including CCS in the EU-ETS and other enabling actions, with an aspiration from the Industries to provide 12 demonstration projects before 2020.
